Did you know the person responsible for the light bulb being useful is Lewis Latimer an African-American man? Working for Edison he developed the technology that allowed the light bulb to burn for extended periods of time. The firm found Latimer so indispensable that they promoted him many times. In addition to assisting others, Latimer designed a number of his own inventions, including an improved railroad car bathroom and an early air conditioning unit.
